Ubuntu

So I am back on the Linux bandwagon again using Ubuntu 5.10 (I think that's the number) So far it's been nothing but smooth sailing. It came with most of the stuff I needed already installed: firefox, GAIM, IRC, etc. The only difficulty might be getting drivers for my PCI IDE controller card and subsequently mounting those NTFS drives. But that's my next mission. If anyone has advice, fire away as usual.B)

Re:Ubuntu

Whoa -- back from the dead. How've you been?

Not sure what specific things have to be done on Ubuntu to mount NTFS drives. You do know that the new version was just released today, right?

It might be better to upgrade first -- it may address the problems you're having.

Re:Ubuntu

I've been pretty good. But oh man, that's nuts. I just downloaded this last night. I didn't know about the new version. How hard would it be to upgrade it? I don't want to have to format and install it from scratch if I can help it.

Re:Ubuntu

I've no idea what the upgrade options are -- I was never able to get any version of Ubuntu to install properly on any of my machines. I haven't tried the new one yet, though.

Re:Ubuntu

Yeah, I went ahead and installed the new version. Doesn't seem much different, but it was probably worth it. So who else is still around? Are JF, JMsams, Joecav etc. still around?

Joecav has been MIA for several months. I sent him a few emails a while back, and have not heard anything from him. JF is here now and then. JMsams has been here recently.

In general, most of the forum regulars are gone or scarce, although site traffic is higher than ever. Most people just come in for a question or two, then never return.
